Contemporary Visual Arts and Craft Strategy Implementation Reference Committee

In December 2003, the Cultural Ministers Council announced its formal response to the Contemporary Visual Arts and Craft Inquiry report, being the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy. The report was the result of an independent inquiry into the contemporary visual arts and craft sector, commissioned by the Australian Government in 2001. The inquiry was chaired by Mr Rupert Myer AM.

The Visual Arts and Craft Strategy was a package of funding totaling $39 million over four years for the visual arts and craft sector. The strategy aimed to increase the viability and vitality of Australia's contemporary visual arts sector

In February 2004, the Cultural Ministers Council established the Implementation Reference Committee to ensure that the original intention of the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy was maintained and realised. The committee’s role was to monitor funding agreements and report on progress and achievements under the strategy.

The strategy was administered by the then Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.

The Contemporary Visual Arts and Craft Strategy Implementation Reference Committee completed its work in August 2006 and presented a full evaluation report to the Cultural Ministers Council in September 2006.
