Creative innovation economy

The Cultural Ministers Council takes a strong interest in emerging opportunities for creative industries and the cultural sector in the digital environment. In September 2006, the Cultural Ministers Council agreed to establish a ‘roundtable’ of officials from industry development, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), broadband, film and cultural interests.

The roundtable’s role was to map opportunities for building a creative innovation economy involving Australian and New Zealand creative industries, and for facilitating innovation across the broader national economy.

The roundtable helped develop links in areas of mutual interest between the Cultural Ministers Council and the Online and Communications Council (OCC). Ministers also agreed to advise the OCC of the outcomes of its investigations.

All Cultural Ministers Council member jurisdictions were represented on the roundtable. The roundtable was chaired by the Australian Government.

The Roundtable produced the Building a creative innovation economy report on opportunities in the digital environment.
