Cultural Ministers Council

Standing Committee

The Cultural Ministers Council is advised and assisted by its Standing Committee, which consists of a senior official from each of the Cultural Ministers Council member governments and the Australia Council. Officials from the Australian Local Government Association, Norfolk Island and Papua New Guinea are invited to attend meetings as observers.

The committee’s main role is to help the Cultural Ministers Council to improve the co-operation and co-ordination of government activities relating to culture and the arts. The committee considers issues of national significance relating to culture and the arts in Australia, with a view to progressing the agenda, and implementing the decisions of, the Cultural Ministers Council.

The committee meets at least once a year in person and may meet more often by teleconference.

The chair of the committee may refer matters that are not the responsibility of the Cultural Ministers Council or the Standing Committee to appropriate authorities such as other ministerial councils or consultative/advisory bodies like the Australia International Cultural Council.

Chairing and hosting arrangements for the Standing Committee parallel those of the Cultural Ministers Council.
